    WesternU hosted more than 130 Palomares Academy of Health Sciences students during its annual Palomares Day.The event, held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 on WesternU’s Pomona campus, was sponsored and organized by student clubs - the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), Student National Medical Organization (SNMA) and the Dermatology Interest Group (DIG).The goals of the event are to get seventh- and 10th-graders excited about college and medicine and to expose them to different aspects of health care. Tenth-grade students took part in a hands-on exercise of making base cream in the College of Pharmacy Compounding Lab. Rudolf Mireles, PharmD, director of the Pharmacy at WesternU, led the workshop with support from student pharmacists.Seventh-grade students took part in various workshops across campus.     WesternU hosted more than 130 Palomares Academy of Health Sciences students during its annual Palomares Day.The event, held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 on WesternU’s Pomona campus, was sponsored and organized by student clubs - the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), Student National Medical Organization (SNMA) and the Dermatology Interest Group (DIG).The goals of the event are to get seventh- and 10th-graders excited about college and medicine and to expose them to different aspects of health care. Tenth-grade students took part in a hands-on exercise of making base cream in the College of Pharmacy Compounding Lab. Rudolf Mireles, PharmD, director of the Pharmacy at WesternU, led the workshop with support from student pharmacists.Seventh-grade students took part in various workshops across campus. They learned about how WesternU uses virtual reality at the J and K Virtual Reality Learning Center; vitals, heart, bones, anatomy and plasma; Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM); dental medicine and drilling a tooth in the Dental Simulation Lab from third-year CDM student Ryann Vasquez and casting from College of Podiatric Medicine first-year students.
